About this place
Once Malta’s capital, Mdina is one of the island’s most atmospheric historic destinations. Known as the Silent City, its narrow streets, honey-coloured stone buildings, ornate doorways and impressive fortifications make it feel completely different from Malta’s busier coastal areas.
Visitors can enter the walled city for free and explore its winding streets, quiet squares and bastion viewpoints at their own pace. Along the way you’ll find historic palaces, churches, cafés and impressive examples of medieval and Baroque architecture.
Mdina is especially beautiful later in the day when the crowds start to disappear and the old streets are illuminated.

Museums, St Paul’s Cathedral and other attractions inside the city may charge separately.
Comfortable shoes recommended because of cobbled streets.
Very good for photography.
