About this place

Perched high above Valletta’s Grand Harbour, the Upper Barrakka Gardens are one of the capital’s most beautiful and popular viewpoints. Visitors can stroll through landscaped gardens, relax beneath the historic limestone arches and take in sweeping views across the harbour towards the Three Cities. Originally associated with the Knights of St John, the gardens form part of Valletta’s historic setting and are an easy stop while exploring the capital on foot. VisitMalta describes Upper Barrakka as being renowned for its history, scenery and some of the best views on the Maltese Islands. The gardens also overlook the famous Saluting Battery below, making them a great place to watch activity in the Grand Harbour. Whether stopping for photos, enjoying the view or simply taking a break from exploring Valletta, Upper Barrakka is one of the city’s must-see free attractions.
Please note: Excellent photo spot overlooking the Grand Harbour and Three Cities. Can become busy during peak tourist hours. The Barrakka Lift is nearby, making the area convenient for visitors arriving from the waterfront.
