About this place
The Victoria Lines are a historic system of British fortifications built across Malta during the late 19th century and named after Queen Victoria. The defensive line follows Malta’s natural escarpment and passes through countryside, valleys and elevated viewpoints. Visitors can explore accessible sections of the route on foot while enjoying a combination of military history and rural scenery. The Mosta section, particularly around Targa Gap, is among the better-preserved and more easily followed stretches.
Please note: Wear suitable walking shoes and bring water, particularly in warmer weather. Some sections of the Victoria Lines are easier to follow than others, so visitors should plan their route before setting out. The walking trail itself is free, but this does not mean that every fort or structure encountered along the route is independently open to the public.
