About this place

The Xwejni Salt Pans stretch along Gozo’s northern coastline and form one of the island’s most distinctive cultural landscapes. Their geometric pools have long been used to collect and harvest sea salt using traditional methods, giving visitors a glimpse into an important part of Gozo’s local heritage. The wider salt-pan route extends for around 1.5 kilometres towards Xwejni Bay, making it a scenic place for a coastal walk as well as a cultural stop.
Please note: Visitors should respect the working salt pans, avoid walking inside them or disturbing salt-harvesting equipment, particularly during the harvesting season.
